Orkut vs Facebook vs MySpace – which do you prefer?

If you’re young and Internet-savvy, you probably run an account on a social networking website.

And if you live in WWW, chances are that website is either Orkut or Facebook or MySpace.

Orkut is run by Google — the site was launched in January of 2004 and named after Orkut Bykkkten, the Turkish Google employee responsible for its creation. It helps you meet new friends, get in touch with old ones and permits the creation of community forums that users can be part of.

Facebook, on the other hand, was initially a website reserved strictly for students of Harvard University. It was launched in February of 2004 and gradually extended its membership to include students from other universities across the globe. Today anyone with a valid email address and falling within a specific age group can sign up for a Facebook account. It also offers members the chance to join groups online and run forums within them. Facebook is particularly known for its photo-sharing feature.

MySpace is an online community that lets you meet your friends’ friends. Create a private community on MySpace and you can share photos, journals and interests with your growing network of mutual friends!

So we want to know — which of these two popular websites goes down better with you and why?

Do you run accounts on both websites? Which do you prefer?

It’s Orkut versus Facebook versus MySpace, guys and gals — so tell us which is your favourite! Post your comments on the comment board below!

Amazing how facebook is way better than something Google came up with. In India, it will be interesting to see how facebook overtakes orkut in a few months. That is what Google treands or insights for search is forecasting.

    Thanks for the post!

  • srv auckland
orkut, all i can say is that, is the best to find long lost friends, its user friendly(google way) and the applications are good and you don't need more for social networking, facebook is also good but......that makes me distant from facebook. i don't know about myspace.
  • lmc
if you are searching for laong lost frients then orkut is better else facebook

I have all three , and I like all three , but I have to say of the three Myspace is my least favorite.

Orkut is the best now at current time it has developed a lot n lot n lot of cool features .......hate myspace hust have to go chatroom to tlk with the online frnd wtf?
  • Maybe this is a dumb answer but I dont know how to answer. All I can say is that I have FACEBOOK, why Orkut or Myspace?

Facebok Doesn't Let You See A Person's Profile..
If You Search For A Person On Facebook And Get 10 Different Results, You Wont Be Able To Tell Which Is The One You Were Looking For!

Orkut Allows You to View The Profile And NOT THE ALBUM If The Profile Owner Hasn't Allowed.

So I Guess Orkut Is Secure And Yet User Friendly, Facebook Isn't User Friendly.

I Joined Facebook Only For It's Applications.

Whereas I Use Orkut To Keep In Touch With Friends.

According to various Web Stats service,

    1. MySpace
    2. Orkut
    3. Facebook

    in US
    1. Facebook
    2. Orkut
    3. muspace
  • ya myspace and facebook has more no of users than orkut
  • I like myspace better. It is better for the websites that I want traffic to. With over 3500 friends, I do not want to move.
  • Shishir
For me, Orkut is best. It has great features, functionality and usability. It's not has poor built like My Space.
I can say that it is best for being in contact with our friends.
  • I have not seen myspaces yet. I am yet to understand what would make me to love facebook :) as I have mentioned here.

  • I have Myspace, and Facebook. I only have about 2 friends on Facebook since none of them want to move away from Myspace. I don't think they want to switch even with all the spam (which has gotten better the last few days).

I have a myspace and a facebook account. I prefer to use myspace because it is more user friendly and way more customizable. I do web and graphic design for a living so I like being able to create my own backgrounds and ambience on my page. Also, facebook hinders you from searching for old friends. While that is great for security purposes, you can't just surf for a person you remember from high school and click on their profile to see if it's them. You have to first run the risk of having to say, "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were someone else..."

Facebook is way better mainly because of its privacy settings that only my friends can view my full profile n album etc..n its got loads of applications also...although orkut is also good..but since most of my frds are on orkut i use that more otherwise facebook is better.
  • Kathew
I like facebook because it has more features and applications. It also has better security as only friends can view my profile.
