I just started optimizing this blog for some pinging when I add new posts. What a ping does it tell other services that this contact lens blog has a new post and they’ll update their sites. Technorati is a big one and Google Blog Search is another. I think by default wordpress pings pingomatic. If it doesn’t then add http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ to the box at the bottom of Options/Writing (Admin area).

So here is a great list of ping urls that you can just copy and past into Wordpress. Click Options, then Writing. Paste this list at the bottom.

If you’re a feedburner subscriber another way to increase the number of sites you ping is use the PingShot service which can be found under the Publicize tab.  This allows you to ping up to 11 services everytime feedburner sees that your feed has updated.
