Jiffr.com - Next Generation Dating using Flickr

February 15th, 2008 by Social Guy

jiffr

Know what a blind date is? jiffr is the opposite. Pick nine photos from your flickr account to describe yourself. Browse other users photos and choose the ones you wanna date. There’s no way to talk before you meet each other. No instant messaging, no chat, no mail. No words at all. Just photos.

On jiffr.com, you introduce yourself without words, only using the language of pictures. It’s a sort of encoding your personality. Once you are registered, you can select the pictures you want to represent you. Then you’ll be able to choose users you wanna meet.

The icing on the cake is that the algorithm behind gives you only one match once a week and you only have one chance to meet your favorite “picture mystery”. On Thursdays, the users will be notified whether they have a match and on Saturdays they have the chance to meet each other. The meeting point is determined by the engine on a random basis.

Because we were fed up with the usual dating services, which provides you a scientific match, based on questionnaires and so on. We’d rather like to have an online dating service that reproduce the magic of reality: You have a glimpse of another person and in a snatch you see something, that fascinates you.

Nothing more, no talking – these are the situations we love. But these are also the situations we’re afraid of, especially if we’re unable to make a pass on the woman or the man. On jiffr.com you get a date without words.

The name “jiffr” is made of two things. First, the word jiffy which describes a very short time (as the time it takes the eye to blink or the heart to beat) and second, the “r” at the end, the typical web2.0 suffix so it sounds like flickr. In plain language, with jiffr you can get a great dating experience with photos from flickr in a jiffy!
