Overlay.TV Opens Its API to Developers and Video Producers

February 20th, 2009 by Social Guy

Overlay.TV

Overlay.TV, an interactive video platform that customizes online video by layering on additional content, is opening its API to software developers. Developers and producers can now rapidly build engaging video experiences that are easy to modify and quickly designed from the ground up by creating applications, widgets and other customized solutions to enhance the interactive features of online video.

Labs showcases the range of possibilities available using Overlay.TV’s platform by posting recent examples of customized projects Overlay.TV has developed. Projects include an iJustine product “endorsement,” a customized karaoke app for Kidz Bop, a World of Warcraft widget, and an XLSuite free website app for bands. Reference implementation will be provided in open source or CC formats and developers are encouraged to use these to spark creativity.

Some project examples, created by Overlay.TV, one of them is “iJustine Product Endorsement Videos” – Thousands clamor for the approval of famed vlogger and social media expert, iJustine. Overlay.TV has partnered with iJustine to produce various product endorsement videos, with a tongue-in-cheek tone, where creators have the power to literally put products in iJustine’s hand.

“Working with developers and partners to produce technical solutions is an important part of the Overlay.TV adoption strategy. We have engineered deep capabilities into our platform that will only ever be fully exploited by partners and developers who extend our base solution to solve specific content and marketing problems.” – Ben Watson, VP Marketing, Overlay.TV

Those who are not interested in developing applications of their own, but still want the opportunity to test out apps as soon as they become available, are welcome and encouraged to join the Labs community. The site also hosts forums for developer discussions.
