Digsby Now the #1 Facebook Desktop Client

September 18th, 2009 by Social Guy

Digsby

dotSyntax announced the full integration of Facebook and MySpace IM into Digsby, continuing to hold the pace for innovation and constant feature releases this summer. Over just one year of public development, Digsby has quickly become the most popular application for integrating instant messaging, e-mail, and social network accounts into one interface.

The new Facebook implementation allows members of Facebook, the fourth largest website in the world, to fully interact with their Facebook Newsfeed right from the desktop. This includes the ability to post status updates, comment on friend activity, “like” status updates, and browse through photo albums. Coupled with built-in support for Facebook Chat, Facebook users can eliminate loading times and enjoy the full Facebook experience outside of Facebook.com

Continuing to connect people and save time, Digsby is also adding MySpace IM to its arsenal of over 15 supported protocols. With the recent MySpace OpenID partnership and the new Facebook Newsfeed, Digsby now has complete support for the two largest social networking websites in the world.

“We wanted to bring the deep online interaction you have with your friends on Facebook and MySpace to the desktop,” said Steve Shapiro, founder of dotSyntax, “Digsby exemplifies the future of web functionality within desktop applications.”

After soliciting feedback on its revenue model from a community of over 1 million users, there are now no bundled offers shown during installation. New users are presented one ad for the Digsby Toolbar and asked during installation if they’d like to contribute their unused CPU power to sponsored research. “Our users let their voices be heard,” said Steve Shapiro, founder of dotSyntax, “their comments let us know what they wanted the future of Digsby to be and we listened.”
