Twist In Google’s Algorithm : “Standout” Tag for Featured Content

Yesterday, during a Google News workshop at the Online News Association conference in Boston, Google has announced a twist in the automated news-feed algorithm – organizations can add “standout” (a new link rel attribute) metadata tags to mark their best stories.

Google News (for the US edition) will use this information as a signal for labeling news stories as “featured” on the home page and in News search results. But there’s no guarantee “standout” stories will be featured, the company said.

Ten Homophobic Italian Politicians Called Gay By Bloggers

The Internet naming of 10 Italian politicians as homosexual has caused a furore, with the country’s main gay rights group calling it a “wretched rag-bag of gossip” that did more harm than good.

Bloggers in Italy have published a list of ten politicians there whom they allege to be “gay but homophobic”. They say they are doing it to “bring a little justice in a country where there are people who do not have any kind of defense against the daily attacks and insults by a class of bad political hypocrites.
