Time Warner, AOL’s parent company announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Bebo, a leading global social media network. Under the terms of the agreement, AOL will acquire Bebo for $850 million in cash. Together with its AIM and ICQ personal communications network, the acquisition will give AOL a premier position in the fast growing world of social media with a network of approximately 80 million unique users.

Social networking site Bebo has beaten rivals Facebook and MySpace in an independent analysis by Computing Which?.
The report examined ten of the most popular sites over a range of categories including ease of use, set-up, protection of member’s privacy and the variety of features they offer. Bebo and Facebook received the highest scores of 79 percent and 74 percent respectively and were rated easier to use than MySpace and best for socializing.

Bebo, the global Social Media Network, on 12th Dec’2007 announced that it has launched its Open Application Platform, opening its API to third party developers to integrate their applications with the Bebo site. At a launch event held today in San Francisco, Bebo announced partnerships with more than 40 developers to date who have created applications from music and movies to gameplay and photo sharing for the site’s 40 million users worldwide. Joining Bebo for today’s launch event were developers from NBC Universal, Gaia Online, and Flixster to demonstrate how their applications are now featured on Bebo.

Bebo has announced that they will also be joining OpenSocial, following the huge announcement from MySpace and Google earlier today. Additionally, Bebo has announced that they will be launching a developer program that will make it easy for programmers to port their existing Facebook applications over to Bebo.
