There is a saying that you are the average of your 5 closest friends. Whether this is completely true or not, it doesn’t really matter, but there certainly is a very high chance that you share a lot of interests with most of the people you know. Since you already have loads of people begging for you to fertilize their farms in Facebook then why not to start using them for your own good for a change.

This post takes a look on how you could profit from Facebook or any other social media site’s friends list. This is not close to a complete list but after reading this you can apply the same strategy in your own specific needs. You may not be aware of it, but you are the owner of a very specific advertising channel which is of a great value to many. So my suggestion is that you take advantage of it.

Your Facebook friends can help you to…

1) Get free access to clubs. A LOT of clubs are already doing this but you can be the one who gets your favorite club to take advantage of social media. If you think about visiting that specific club then most of your friends would go there, too. They just need a push…from YOU. Send an email to whoever deals with the promotion of the place and say that you can help to get their message to a lot of potential clients basically for free, all you want for your trouble is a VIP card. If they have any idea at all on how useful this is, they will give in. Otherwise 600 people (in your town) will start receiving weekly invites from the rivalling club. That should get the message across.

2) Get free access to a training school. Are you interested in MMA or Pilates? If yes, then also a lot of your friends are. Look up the place that teaches it in your town and make them an offer. You will post some cool videos on just how awesome it is to your friends for a while and then start sending out messages on where to learn it and that you have already joined or better yet looking for people to train with, as many people don`t go to training just because they are afraid to go alone. You can do this with most of the popular practices.

3) Get free concert tickets! So, there’s a kick-ass show coming up and you’re short on cash…no worries!Get in touch with the promoter of the concert and for 2 free tickets you will start to spread the word about what an awesome show it will be but there is only a limited amount of tickets to go around, you were lucky enough to get some and if you all hurry up you can probably manage to get one also because this will definitely be sold-out!

4) Get free education! There are all kinds of cool courses and seminars that you’d like to take part in – internet marketing, time management, learning to speak Spanish etc. Half of the people you know would also like to join them. Find out who’s the organizer and offer to help to fill the group. Ask for a small discount you can offer to help you with the promotion and then start preparing the ground. Post a related article on how necessary the knowledge of the specific topic is and what is there to gain. Then post an euphoric note saying that you finally found exactly the place where to study it! You would be very happy if someone would join you in there and if they act now they can take advantage of this discount which makes it really a bargain. Of course you’ll get in for free.

5) Get free coffee or drinks (or even lunch)! Are you a regular in some cafe? If yes then there is no reason why you should pay for your drinks every time. If you like it there then your friends will love it, so keep them updated on all the events and specials and you have probably earned yourself the right to get your daily latte for free from now on. (This one probably will not work when most of your friends live too far from the place.)

PS. You can try this on a larger scale by asking for free food from the place you go to eat when you’re at work. You can spam the office mailing list with daily specials!

This should get you thinking in the right direction. Let us know what else could you get for free by taking advantage of your friends list.

Thanks to Martin Leet, Fr.ee shows you how to get free things in life.

As a result, Meezoog’s users are now connected to more than 500,000 people on Facebook through Meezoog’s trust-based platform.

Meezoog uses Facebook Connect in a unique way, allowing its members to search tens of thousands of singles on Facebook who are all visibly connected to one another through Meezoog’s human paths. Connections of up to five degrees of separation can be viewed via Meezoog, mixing Facebook and Meezoog users. Meezoog adheres to Facebook privacy policy and only incorporates publically available information on users.

The highlights of the announcement released today are:

Meezoog will be using Facebook Connect in a unique way to give members access to 500,000 additional people

Meezoog users can now view Facebook singles through Meezoog’s trust-based platform, ensuring the person they are looking at is real and truthful

Meezoog has seen a 20% increase in users in past two months

Meezoog’s patent-pending technology allows users to communicate online with virtual strangers – whether they are Meezoog or Facebook subscribers – in a safe and trusted way. By utilizing Meezoog’s indicators of “Social Proximity” and “Social Trust,” users are able to ensure accuracy of information on profiles from both Facebook and Meezoog.

Through the Facebook integration, Meezoog users can search singles on both Meezoog and Facebook, view profiles and send messages. Unlike other sites and Facebook applications, Meezoog’s users enjoy trust measurements when viewing profiles of Facebook and Meezoog users, as well as the most “trusted” paths that connect them to each other. Social Proximity gauges the Social Trust between users, showing both the nature and depth of connection.

In the last article on Facebook we looked at the 7 Fatal Sins that will Kill your Facebook Marketing Strategy. In this article I am going to talk about things that You need to focus on to build out a super successful network of people who listen to and respect you. Following is my list of 7 Must Do’s to Maximize your Facebook Marketing experience… use them and prosper!

1. Relationship first / Business Second – Get this one wrong and you will never build significant influence and your time will be better spent somewhere else. Your primary goal on Facebook MUST be to build relationships and to build rapport with your new friends. So how do you do this? Simple; comment on their stuff, interact with them, get to know them and read their profile etc. Just show genuine interest

2. Concentrate on Quality not Quantity – Many folks get on Facebook and try to add as many people as possible. Instead slow down and be sure to build rapport with your new friends. A smaller more connected group will outperform and more importantly out value a larger less connected following. Please do not underestimate or try to circumvent this part of the process. A good idea is to start with a very small Core group of people that are ‘Influencers’ in your niche. Build a relationship with them and then build out from there.

3. Protect your Reputation at all Costs – Your most valuable asset in Social Media is your Reputation. Make sure you rise up as the go to person in your industry or niche. 67% of people will consult with social media sites for recommendations BEFORE they buy anything, so you want to build the reputation of someone that people trust and go to for advice. Don’t give into the allure of spamming for a quick buck. Not only it doesn’t work, but you’ll kill your reputation and a bad reputation is very, very hard to turn around.

4. Be Authentic – Be a real person. It’s ok to be vulnerable and to show your shortcomings; this tells people that you are truthful and genuine. People will be able to connect with you at a deeper level and the trust will build exponentially. In other words you do not need to be nor should you be Perfect. Be yourself; like attracts like. Believe in YOU.

5. Transparency is Paramount – There is nowhere to hide online anymore so don’t try to. If you don’t like a product or service don’t Promote it just to make a quick buck as it will come back to haunt you. You’ll slowly lose your influence and your social power will disappear. You will find less and less response and interaction as people realize that you are not always sharing the full story. Shadiness will lead to mis-trust.

6. Follow Through – When you set out to do something follow through with it. If you make a statement make sure you see it through. People are watching you. The great thing is 9 out of 10 people will never see anything through so you jump above 90% by just seeing your task through to the end. It is very important in the eyes of your followers. Be a man or woman of your word.

7. Be Interested not Interesting – The most important person in the world to your follower is YOUR FOLLOWER! So what does that mean? Be interested in them! Listen more and preach less. People are most interested in themselves so indulge a little. Ask people Where are you from / What do you do / Who do you know. This will expose commonalities, connections and similar interests. Think of benefits for THEM in your communication.

The above 7 items will ensure you build significant influence. By taking the time to do things right you will be enriching the lives of others and in doing so enriching your own. This represents the mindset you need to have to build a mutually beneficial relationship with your expanding Facebook Network. In future articles I will get in to the details of exactly what you can do to market yourself on Facebook. Just keep in mind that the preceding points should govern everything else you do there.

Most of us are on Facebook (FB) these days and I bet there’s a good chance we weren’t even using it last year. A friend invited you and now you’re engrossed. Or maybe you’re on FB, but you’re not sure if you’re using it right. Somehow I amassed 670 friends and I’m still learning as I go.

We’ve entered this huge technological sphere and no one has told us the proper rules of the road because everything moves so fast in cyberspace. It still is the Wild West out there! Most of us are going to make social media mistakes, but wouldn’t it be better if had more information and knew about what not to do?

In the interest of community service, I’ve developed …

8 Facebook Netiquette Rules of the Road for Your Facebook Profile Page

1. Do fill out your profile to the best of your ability. Many women list their maiden name as their middle name so their school friends can find them. Under “Favorite Books” and “Favorite Movies,” go ahead and list what you like. Don’t just say you like everything. And do post a good picture that shows your face and is an actual picture of you. If you’re using your Facebook profile page more for business try not to use a picture with you and your significant since this is YOUR Facebook page and don’t substitute a photo of your cat or dog for yourself. Folks will wonder what you’re hiding.

2. Once you have a few friends, see what they’re posting and how they are using Facebook. Ask yourself if you want to use FB as a social or a business tool or both. Listen! Observe! See what status updates make you want to read more and see what you don’t like (i.e. goofy applications such as Farmville and Mafia Wars running wild all over your page).

3. Now jump in and comment on other friends’ posts. Comment on their photos. Post photos of your own. Don’t be ghost; stay involved and you’ll get more out FB. Be sure to read your Inbox and respond to your messages. People hate it when they send you a FB message and there’s no response.

4. Don’t write how sick your children are on your friends’ walls because EVERYONE gets your wall post. Save that for a private message. Walls are for quick comments, not for telling everyone where you’re going to grab that drink after work. There’s a tool to hide your friends’ posts. I find this particular useful for my friends who like to post their political invectives and I don’t want to defriend them.

5. Once you get the hang of FB, see what you can do to be an information broker and an indispensable resource. Suggest friends for other friends. Don’t know what to post in your status update? Send a useful link, a video, give a tip, tell your friends what you’re reading, what you’re watching, where you’re drinking your coffee, etc. I post where I’m speaking or presenting workshops and usually I get a lot of cool feedback. I also post a lot of photo albums. I add captions as well as tag my friends. I try not to post unflattering pics but if a friend doesn’t like a particular shot, I delete it since I’m praying they’d do the same for me.

6. If you have a side business or a main business that requires a lot of outside sales, DON’T push market, OK? That’s not adding value or helping people. It’s fine if you list your website on your Info page, but don’t solicit.

7. Don’t put anything out there you may regret. That includes bad taste jokes, curse words, sexually motivated posts…you get the idea. I’ve seen some status updates that have been downright rude…I liberally defriend anyone who posts an extremely rude or racist update.

8. Lastly, you don’t have to connect with everyone who wants to be your friend. If you know a particular person is prone to doing crazy things, you don’t want to be tarred with the same brush. I hate that this is how the world works, but it’s true.

Continuing its commitment to be the center of people’s online lives, Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) announced further integration with Facebook that unites social experiences from across the Web to provide a place for consumers to enjoy meaningful content and stay in touch with the people they care about most.

Yahoo!’s Facebook Connect integration will give consumers richer experiences on Yahoo!, including in Yahoo! Mail and on properties like Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Sports, and Yahoo! Finance. It will enable them to connect with Facebook friends on Yahoo!, view a feed of their friends’ related activity on Yahoo!, and share content – such as photos from Flickr or comments on news stories – with all of their friends on Facebook. The content that consumers share with Facebook friends will then create a loop that drives visitors back to Yahoo!.

“As one of the largest sites on the Web, Yahoo! is an ideal partner to integrate with Facebook Connect, enabling users to share meaningful content with their friends on Facebook from Yahoo’s wide range of category-leading properties,” said Ethan Beard, Director of Facebook Developer Network.

This partnership extends the current Facebook integration on Yahoo! which enables Facebook users to access their stream and update their status from the Yahoo! homepage, provides “Share on Facebook” options across the Yahoo! network, and allows Facebook to access Yahoo! Contacts. People using both Yahoo! and Facebook will soon be able to share updates across both networks, creating a richer and more relevant social experience by connecting the broad range of Yahoo! content and services with their friends on Facebook.

The integration is expected to begin in the first half of 2010.

I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical when I first started seeing FarmVille secret guides popping up. I mean, I’d never really played the game, but from the name I assumed there couldn’t be all that much to it. After all, how much strategy could possibly go into building a virtual farm? But once I started seeing these guides, I figured it’d be worth taking a shot at the game to see what all the hubbub could possibly be about.

And I was actually rather surprised. Building my own virtual farm was much more enjoyable than I’d imagined it would be. Part of that was because there really were a lot of options and a lot of decisions to make. The more I played the game, the more I realized that there probably could be a lot of helpful information in a guide because there were just too many ways you could play.

I was doing alright on my own, but I was getting more and more curious about what I might be missing out on. After I reached level 13 and was having a hard time getting farther, I decided to give one of the guides a shot. I bought FarmVille Secrets, a relatively new guide and pretty up to date on the latest additions to the game. I really wasn’t expecting too much, but this guide just blew me away.

How To: Level up Fast In Farmville!

In no time, I was the Cream of the Crop, a level 24 farmer with a Big Family Farm and tons of neighbors to visit. Using the tips in this guide helped me way more than I thought they would – even when I read them. There’s a lot more to this farming stuff than meets the eye. I’d recommend picking up a copy of FarmVille Secrets Guide if you’re interested in getting the most out of your FarmVille experience.

Facebook is rolling out new privacy settings so users can control who sees each individual piece of content created or uploaded, but what about untagged photos? If a friend uploads a photo of you but does not tag it, you may not even know it’s there.

An app from Face.com, Photo Tagger is extending Facebook privacy control to photo sharing with a new feature: Face Alerts. A feature of the bulk-tagging application Photo Tagger, Face Alerts is the Google Alerts of photos.

Face.com utilizes facial recognition technology to automatically and continuously scan newly uploaded photos within a user’s social network. Users are then alerted via Facebook notification, email or both when their face is found in a photo, even if it is not tagged. This puts power back in the hands of Facebook users, allowing them to be the first to take action to hide (or share) embarrassing photos.

The Face Alerts feature is available via Photo Tagger, a recently launched free application that lets users automatically tag photos in bulk to maximizing sharing capabilities. Once a user selects an album (either their own or a friends’), Photo Tagger scans the photos, batches subjects into groups and suggests tags that can be quickly accepted or edited. Details are below.

Can you visualize 150 million users, on the day of the launch of a new website? Is there a ready market for your new product?

This is the unimaginable opportunity available with Facebook. The students of Harvard University began Facebook as a private network which has today grown to huge proportions. Nowadays, not only college students, but also people from all other cadres like businessmen, employees, etc… are using Facebook. It is being used extensively by millions of people all over the world. Those who have superior, salable business ideas can earn a good amount of money by launching their applications on Facebook. When one viewer views your application, the information about it is sent automatically to all friends and contacts of the viewer. Thus, this application is publicized automatically.

About 400,000 applications are already scheduled on Facebook. So, all applications on Facebook are not surely successful. The conception and the implementation have to be perfect if real money has to be earned. A few important things should be taken care of while developing a new Facebook application.

1. Importance of idea : This stage is of utmost importance. The business idea on which the Facebook is being developed should be exclusive, unique and saleable. The idea should have a social significance.

2. Participation from all : The Facebook application should involve all its users in such a way that people of all age group can make use of the application and enjoy its usage.

3. Usefulness : The application should have utility fort all its users. For example, online availability of a car pool application promotes car pool by recording normal car routes and suggesting pool partners.

4. Individual information : A good Facebook application should make the user capable of sharing their personal information with other users. This could mean their hobbies, photos, interest, blogs, video content and ideas, etc… remember that Facebook is a website that promotes social networking. The users of this social networking website feel proud of sharing their personal information with others so that they will be able to get exposure to the outside world.

5. Faith : The Facebook application should be such that every user develops faith and trust in your application. The information that is shared by users in the application should not be misused or shared with others until the writer gives consent to it. If the personal information of the writer is misused the faithfulness of your application will be spoiled because of which you might have to face a huge loss.

6. Fair deal : A Facebook user should not be cheated during any stage of using the Facebook application. Although the purpose of making and using them is commercial, but the customers should be charged only after getting specific consent from him.

7. Usually Facebook users place only that information that is to be disclosed to other users. However, the application should restrain from seeking personal information from users. In case it is necessary take care that it is not shared publicly.

Hope, you will develop your application keeping in mind the above-mentioned points and earn profit through Facebook.

With an average of 101,000 photos in each Facebook user’s social network, how many clicks would it take to caption every one? Face.com launches Photo Tagger, a program that harnesses the most advanced facial recognition technology to auto-tag photos in seconds. Previously a private alpha, Photo Tagger debuts to the public with an unprecedented Face Alerts system, which notifies users when photos of themselves or their friends are uploaded – even if they are not tagged.

The free application utilizes facial recognition technology to auto-tag photos, identifying millions of faces from billions of photos in mere seconds, and also provides users with unprecedented control over their online identities. The Face Alerts feature automatically and continuously scans newly uploaded (untagged and tagged) photos to notify users whenever her face (or a friend’s face) is found.

Face.com developed Photo Tagger as a tagging short-cut: in two clicks, Facebook users can quickly and efficiently tag all of the photos in an album, maximizing sharing capabilities. Once the user selects the album (either their own or a friends’), Photo Tagger utilizes facial recognition algorithms to scan the photos, batch subjects into groups and suggest tags. Confirmed tags are then pushed directly onto Facebook, mirroring its privacy settings, and the result is an album of meticulously tagged photos, despite varying lighting, quality, backgrounds, angles, focus and facial expressions.

“Home to billions of images, Facebook is not only the world’s largest social network but also the largest photo sharing site,” said Gil Hirsch, CEO, Face.com.

Recently published research, including an academic benchmark by the University of Massachusetts and studies from multiple major conferences jointly conducted with the Face.com team, consistently recognized Face.com algorithms as state-of-the-art, outperformed only by humans. With an emphasis on speed, social experience and control, Photo Tagger identifies faces where other face search programs, including Picasa, fall short.

Nowadays, the social network has become something essential from the daily life of a large chunk of users, starting more and more to be considered of key tools in order to maintain constant the social relations of each member to the network.

Wherever we are, at any time, in every situation possible, connecting to Facebook has now become crucial. The reason is explained by the large number of our friends on the social network, the desire to meet new people and get back in touch with those lost.

Facebook created a revolution within the browsing habits of many of its users, being an ‘Internet inside the internet’. Some of the users are not aware to web applications outside of it.

The solution is very simple and is called Facebook Everywhere. It ’s a is a free, unobtrusive browser extension for Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari users, that can be easily installed, and will be displayed on your browser on every site you surf. Facebook everywhere allows you to update your status, get notifications of new messages, view live stream from your friends, and access essential pages on your profile within a single click. Simple and lightweight, Facebook Everywhere does just what it says it does.

Probably the best feature of Facebook Everywhere is that your boss would most likely not even notice you’re using Facebook, since you’ll be doing it from a slim toolbar (say, from the company homepage) instead of the busy Facebook website.
